Rebekah McMurrough - Registered Veterinary Technician
Growing up Rebekah always had a passion for animals, and with both of her parents having a medical background, the pull towards the two seemed to come naturally. Working on many farms growing up, including dairy, horses, and show pigs, she had a wide range of experience on how to work hard, handle, and have compassion for all the furry creatures. While horses are the biggest part of her life she also has 2 sheep, 2 Great Danes, and a cat named squirrel.
Lenna Borkowski - Assistant
Lenna Borkowski moved to Apex in the fall of 2012 with her husband, Jeff. She grew up on Eastern Long Island where she spent countless hours in the saddle riding with top hunter jumper trainers. Her love of horses continued through college when she chose to stay home and ride. She graduated from Farmingdale State College with a Bachelor’s in Business Management. She currently has 4 dogs, 2 cats, 2 horses & 1 ferret. When Lenna isn’t working, she enjoys spending time with her horses and reading.
Kate Kunhardt - Assistant
Kate’s early passion for horses led her to the University of Findlay where she was an Equine Studies major. Ever since she has been a professional groom and barn manger working at show, sales, and private barns from Tennessee to Massachusetts to Florida. After working with horses with several different injuries and rehabilitation plans, becoming a veterinary assistant seemed like a natural progression for Kate. When not at the barn, she can be found outside exploring new places with her pup Holly.
Cathy Verrilli - Office Assistant
Cathy is our new office assistant. While she is new to us, she brings with her almost 13 years of equine veterinary office experience. She is passionate about customer service and all that comes with it. Prior to working in the equine industry, Cathy rode as a junior in Maclay and Medal national competitions under Kip Rosenthal, and then became a horse show mom to her daughter.
When she isn’t working, Cathy and her husband, Colin, spend as much time as possible at their cabin in the NC mountains. She also has two daughters and a granddaughter, and loves spending time with family, hiking and loving on her two cats, Missy and Peanut. Her guilty pleasures include watching one too many Hallmark movies and classic music videos.
Ali Schubert - Extern
Ali Schubert is a class of 2023 vet student at the NC State College of Veterinary Medicine. She started working as an extern for Dr. Gomes in January of 2016 while earning her undergraduate degree in biochemistry at NC State and continues to work whenever possible throughout vet school. Her current veterinary interests are equine focused, though she’s keeping her options open for her career. When she’s not working or studying, Ali enjoys riding horses and playing with her dog, Oakley.
